Skateraw Fair 28th June 2003
The church ran a tea and gateaux stall at the annual skateraw fair with friendly waiter service (I tried it out myself). A big thankyou to everyone who helped out. The stall raised almost £400 for church funds.
Church picnic 27th June 2003

Last Sunday was the annual congregational picnic. This year we headed to the beautiful Crathes Castle, about half an hour drive from the church. Or at least we would have done had it not been pouring with rain. A contingency plan was in place, however, and Banchory St. Ternan's East kindly allowed us to use their spacious church hall, where we were able to eat our picnics and play some games.

Sadly the rain and mist put some people off coming. Distant readers of this page may be slightly surprised that Scottish folk aren't more hardy, afterall they should be used to living in a perpetual rainy mist. However, they're obviously not, and they don't! The annual average rainfall on the east coast of Scotland is far less than that in my own home city of Bristol!

Games always play an important role at the picnic, with everyone encouraged to take part. We started with a sedate wall quiz of cryptic clues for London underground stations (my favourite being Rough seas do this to some people). We then had a series of relay races; last year's tatty and spoon race was replaced by the tennis ball and spoon race (after some people allegedly skewered their potatoes with the spoon last year!).

Transferring water from one bucket to another the hard way
Another game involved transfering water from one bucket to another, by relay glass by glass along a line. The rain had stopped (it might have helped with this one!) and we played the game outside (I certainly wouldn't recommend playing this one indoors!).

Our thanks to the BB for the kind loan of their strong hockey sticks, and Bill and Ken for being wonderful goal keepers - which all provided plenty of entertainment!

Count me in! June 2003
Thank you to everybody who helped with Count me in.

Count me in was centred around three special services looking at our use of our time (followed by communion), abilities (followed by a church lunch) and resources.

Every church member has been visited and given a questionaire which has a number of roles. Firstly it lists all the activities which take place in the church, giving people the chance to come and join in or help out if they wish. Secondly it requests ideas of what we as a church can do to help in any way. Finally, it seeks comments about the church, what it does well, and what we could maybe do better.

The questionaires are now being collected and we expect they will help us plan for the future, allowing us to serve God and his people in our village better.
