Boys' Brigade

BB logo

The 1st Newtonhill Company was formed in 1988, and currently has over 60 boys aged between 5 and 18 in its three sections: Company, Junior and Anchor Boys. It meets every week in Newtonhill Church.

Since 2000, 18 young men from the Company have been awarded the Queen's Badge — the highest award in the BB organisation, a record that will be the envy of many larger Companies throughout Scotland.

To enable the Brigade to organise and finance activities, the boys take part in a number of fund raising events, the most successful being our ASDA bag packing weekend.

New members are always welcome. If you are interested in joining please contact Ken Cruickshank (or one of the other officers, leaders or helpers). Why not come along to the church on a Tuesday or Friday evening and see for yourself? You may also like to have a look at the national BB website.

Company section

Captain: Ken Cruickshank. Officers: Malcolm MacArthur and Shaun Burns.

This section, for boys in years P7 to S6, meets on Friday evenings between 7.30 and 10pm. The evening is split in two, beginning with badge-work activities such as first-aid, cooking, map reading, computing and local history. The rest of the evening is spent playing games such as football, unihoc, snooker, table tennis etc. Some activities take place outwith the village, such as ten pin bowling, Battalion swimming, football, cross country and basketball. Some years we have a camp, when we visit an outdoor centre for a long weekend.
